Fix your Friends came about from observations over many years about rescue just being the "ambulance at the bottom of the cliff" and a desire to do more proactive work to to help prevent the big issues we are all facing in rescue;
Unwanted litters
Dogs being life chained, neglected or abused
The spread of parvovirus and dogs dying a painful death from this
Dogs needing rehoming
Dogs ending up in the pound for no registration, roaming, or no microchip
Owners wanting to do the right thing, but lacking resources or knowing where to go for help
Legislation covers many areas of this, but education helps in a meaningful and more longstanding way.
After a chat with the team at Kainga Ora, we set to work formulating a way to reach huge amounts of dog owners in a faster way, and work on all of those issues at once.
And Fix your Friends was born!
Thankfully we have a great relationship with the legends at Auckland Council, who were more than happy to come on board and be part of this initiative.
Our first event was in November 2022 and we registered, microchipped, and vaccinated over 60 dogs, and have so far booked in over 20 of these dogs for desexing.
The second event in June 2023 we registered, microchipped and vaccinated around 170 dogs (desexing is being booked as this page goes live).
Our 3rd event is currently in the planning phase for November 2023.
We can see the impact this has on our communities and we want to continue, but we need YOUR help!
